If you are planning one of the many fork swaps available for the CRF230F, you may need to raise the ride height of the rear suspension to match a taller front end.
The rear of the CRF230F can easily be lifted about 1.5″ by using the linkage piece shown above from a CRF150F. Installing that linkage piece increases the maximum extension of the swingarm, which increases the ride height and increases wheel travel.
This method is how I was able to balance the bike with a front end from a bigger bike. Keep in mind that installing this linkage piece without a front end raise to match it would create a steeper steering head angle. The CRF230F is already a quick-steering bike.
Pros of using a CRF150F linkage rocker:
- Increases rear ride height to match a fork swap
- Increases rear wheel travel
- Much simpler than other methods such as shock extensions, which don’t increase travel
Cons of using a CRF150F linkage rocker:
- Swingarm angle will be steeper at maximum extension – slightly alters how you’ll want to have your rear shock adjusted
Price of this modification: $90, available here.
